Ways We Save Money at Walt Disney World (Without Losing the Magic!)

If there’s one thing we’ve learned from our adventures over the years, it’s this: a trip to Walt Disney World can be as expensive—or as budget-friendly—as you make it. And the good news? Saving money doesn’t mean sacrificing the magic. In fact, some of our favorite memories have come from the simplest (and most affordable) moments.

Here are some of our tried-and-true ways to make the most of Disney while keeping our budget in check.

✨ Stay Smart (Not Fancy)

We love a good Disney resort, but you don’t have to stay at a deluxe hotel to have an amazing trip. Value resorts are fun, colorful, and still give you that “Disney bubble” feeling. Even better—sometimes we stay off-property and use the savings for extra experiences like a special meal or souvenir. We like Disney’s Pop Century resort, it has fun theme and direct access to the Skyliner.

One of our favorite off-property options is the hotels in the Flamingo Crossings area. They’re newer, often more affordable, and just a short drive to Disney—making them a great balance of convenience and savings. Many of them also offer free breakfast, which is another easy way to save money each day.

🛒 Start the Day with Groceries (Game Changer!)

One of our absolute favorite money-saving (and sanity-saving!) tips is having breakfast in the room. We either pick up groceries when we arrive or have them delivered—things like muffins, fruit, granola bars, yogurt, and coffee.

Not only does this save a surprising amount of money, but it also makes mornings so much easier. No rushing to find food before rope drop—just a relaxed start to the day.

We’ve even done simple lunches in the room on some days. Which brings me to another favorite tip…

🏖️ Midday Breaks = Money Saved + Happier Days

Taking a break in the middle of the day is a total game changer. We’ll head back to the room for a quick lunch, a nap, or some pool time.

This does a few great things:

  • Cuts down on food spending in the parks
  • Helps everyone recharge (goodbye meltdowns!)
  • Makes the evening feel like a “second day” in the park

Some of our favorite Disney memories are actually those quiet poolside moments in the middle of the day.

🥤 Bring Your Own Snacks

This is one of our biggest money-savers. Disney lets you bring food and drinks into the parks, so we pack snacks, refillable water bottles, and sometimes even sandwiches. It cuts down on impulse spending—and trust me, those snack purchases add up fast!

🍽️ Share Meals (Portions Are Bigger Than You Think)

Disney portions are often large enough to share. We will occasionally split meals, especially at quick-service spots. Another great option is ordering kids’ meals—they’re often more than enough for a lighter lunch and can save quite a bit. Not only do we save money, but we also avoid that overly full, “I need a nap” feeling halfway through the day.

💧 Skip Bottled Water

Instead of buying bottled water (which can get pricey), we bring refillable bottles and ask for free ice water at quick-service restaurants. It’s a simple trick that saves more than you’d expect over a few days.

🎟️ Plan Your Park Days Wisely

Park tickets are one of the biggest expenses, so we make sure every day counts. We plan ahead, use the app, and prioritize what matters most to us. Less wandering = more riding = better value for your ticket.

One more tip: look into purchasing discounted tickets from reputable sellers like Undercover Tourist. We’ve used them many times, and they are legitimate, easy to use, and can be linked right in the Disney app—saving you money without adding any extra hassle. Sometimes they even offer little extra bonuses, which is always a nice perk.

Also, check to see if your workplace offers a “Tickets at Work” benefit. If you have access to it, that can be another great way to find discounted Disney tickets.

🛍️ Set a Souvenir Budget

Souvenirs are fun, but they can sneak up on you. We usually set a budget ahead of time—and sometimes we even buy Disney-themed items before the trip (hello, Amazon finds!) to bring with us. It still feels special without the in-park markup.

Another great tip: check out the Disney Character Warehouse at the Orlando Vineland Premium Outlets and the local Target stores with their expanded Disney sections. You can find some really fun souvenirs at a fraction of the price, and it’s a great way to stretch your budget without missing out on the fun.

📸 Take Advantage of Free Magic

Some of the best things at Disney are completely free:

  • Watching fireworks
  • Riding the Skyliner
  • Exploring resorts
  • Enjoying live entertainment

These moments often end up being our favorites—and they don’t cost a thing.

🎆 Skip the Dessert Parties (There’s a Better Way!)

Instead of paying for a dessert party, we’ve found a much better—and often more relaxing—option: book a dinner with a view of the fireworks.

A few of our favorites:

  • The Plaza Restaurant at Magic Kingdom
  • La Hacienda de San Angel at EPCOT
  • Rose & Crown Dining Room at EPCOT

Our tip: show up a little early and politely ask for an outdoor table or a window seat. It’s not guaranteed—but when it works, it’s amazing. Keep in mind that advanced dining reservations (ADRS) open up 60 days before your trip. Try to book these locations and times early. Check the time of the fireworks. Epcot is generally at 9:00.

On one trip, the four of us enjoyed a full, delicious dinner for just a little more than the cost of one dessert party ticket. And we got a comfortable seat, great food, and a beautiful view of the fireworks—without the crowds.

It’s one of our favorite “feel like a splurge but actually save money” tricks.

🍦 Be Selective with Splurges

We don’t skip treats entirely (because… Disney snacks!), but we do a littel research ahead of time and pick a few “must-haves” instead of buying everything that looks good. We always have a Dole Whip float, a Gideons’ Cookie, and at least one nice sit down meal.

💡 Final Thoughts: It’s About the Experience, Not the Price Tag

At the end of the day, Disney magic isn’t measured in dollars spent. It’s in the laughter, the rides, the little surprises, and the memories you make together.

Some of our happiest moments haven’t cost anything at all—just being there, soaking it all in.

And honestly? That’s the real magic.

If you’re planning a trip, just remember: with a little planning and a few smart choices, you can have an incredible Disney vacation without breaking the bank.

✨ See you in the parks!
